Cotton jersey shorts are really super for lounging around the house, working out, wearing as summer pajamas, etc. Unfortunately, everyone seems to like a different fit, inseam length, and fabric weight. Therefore, it's helpful when the on-line descriptions are accurate and complete.
These Champion shorts are made of a medium-weight knit cotton fabric, have an easy loose fit, and are true to size. The 9" inseam is entirely accurate. It's all good if these details are to your liking.
These shorts also have a one piece drawstring which needs looping in order to secure it. Some folks aren't too fond of this design. You can always cut the string and knot the ends if you'd rather tie it in a bow. I think there is ample cord for this and it's of a substantial weight.
The deal breaker for me, however, was the exposed elastic waist band inside the shorts. It's uncomfortable and can chafe unless you tuck in your shirt or are wearing underwear that sits high. My old Champion shorts have fabric inside and out which allowed them to use a heavier grade of elastic in the waistband. I'm sure it lasted as long as it did because of the heavier weight. I assumed these shorts would be similar design. Instead, they've chosen a fabric-covered elastic similar to that used in jockey-style briefs. It doesn't appear very durable.
I feel Champion is a bit deceptive with this item since they've only shown pictures of someone wearing the shorts with a loose fitting shirt that's tucked in. You can't see the waist band detail at all. They also don't mention this manufacturing choice in the description as most manufacturers do. As with pockets, flies, and fabric content it matters to a lot of customers whether or not a garment has a covered or exposed waistband. At least if we're informed we can try to make better purchasing decisions up front and avoid the hassle of returning items.
Returns are inconvenient for both the vendor and the consumer and don't make for very good PR. In the end, however, I've chosen to return these since I ordered a dozen pairs. A bit too confident, I guess!

Purchased on April 23, 2014:
I have worn various Champion USA brand shorts over the years and had been very happy with them, so when I needed to purchase replacements it seemed to be a no brainer. Unfortunately, right from the first time I wore these the stitching for the waist band started to come apart. With each washing/wearing it has become worse. Not sure how much longer the waist band will remain attached, making the shorts useless. It appears to me that the stitching used to attach the waist band is not elastic, so they break.

I have several of these in a shorter version. I am tired of seeing shorts called shorts if they come down to your knees. May as well wear long pants.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Velvetouch49 Husband Loves Them!!!
My husband loves these shorts! He had a couple of pair in the past, but these have pockets which he was thrilled to find. He doesn't like the flimsy shorts that are mostly found in the athletic stores. He likes his a little bit heavier. He puts them on as soon as he gets home!!! So they must really be comfortable!!!
